Hayes Muslim Centre and Brilliant Parents are hosting two summer workshops for Parents and Carers and young people aged 12 – 18 years.
Wednesday 14th August 6pm – 9pm
Many young people and their parents who reside in or around the Hayes town are concerned by the recent tragic events of a local young man.
These workshops will give young people and their parents and carers the opportunity to look at how they have been affected.
For young people aged 12 – 18 years:
With the help of Andrez Harriott BSc, MA who is a Criminologist and Sociologist and works with young people in both community and prison settings, the young person will be given the opportunity to discuss their lived experiences with solely their peers to:
- Develop their emotional intelligence
- Explore pro-social attitudes
- Explore the potential consequences of offending Support the development of skills required for success.
- This workshop for young people will run alongside a workshop for their Parents and Carers.
For Parents and Carers:
At the same time parents with the help of charity Brilliant Parents, will be given the opportunity to discuss the following topics, solely with other parents:
- Discuss common ways Teenagers can be at risk
- Being aware of parent traps
- Plan ahead to reduce risky behaviour
- Do some advance planning
- Talk about concerns and risks
- Select risk reduction strategies
- Spot mental health and wellbeing challenges
- Discuss safeguarding risks to young people
After which together the young people and their parents will be given the opportunity to ask questions of the panel, discuss what they learnt about each other and:
- The importance of communication between a child and parents/carers.
- The impact of offending upon the family and ripple effect across generations.
- Exploring contemporary youth culture.
Food will be available on the evening to enjoy.
